This 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder Monza convertible is powered by a replacement turbocharged 164ci flat-six paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in red over red vinyl upholstery. Work included repainting the body, recovering the seats, rebuilding the engine, transmission, and differential, and installing a modified turbocharger along with drivetrain and suspension components sourced from a 1964 Corvair. Additional equipment includes a white soft top, 13″ steel wheels with wire-spoke covers, a louvered rear decklid, quad headlights, and a push-button AM radio.
The body was repainted in red with a ceramic clear coat in 2015 and features bright trim on the bumpers, rocker panels, grille, window surrounds, and light surrounds. Additional equipment includes a white soft top with a red boot cover, side mirrors, Monza badging on both fenders, a louvered rear decklid, quad T4 headlights, and a single exhaust outlet with a polished finisher. Work completed have included replacing the soft top and rechroming the door handles and vent-window handles.
The 13″ steel wheels wear wire-spoke covers with faux knockoff spinners along with 185/80 Maxxis white-line tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
The cabin was retrimmed as part of the 2016 refurbishment and features red vinyl seating with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Additional features include lap belts for the front occupants, polished door sills, door panel armrests, painted seat rails, and a push-button AM radio. The radio knobs and rearview mirror mount were rechromed, factory replacement parts reportedly installed under current ownership include the cigarette lighter, door strikers, floor mats, radio bezel, and rearview mirror.
The two-spoke steering wheel with a Chevrolet “Turbo Charged” center emblem frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows under 89k miles.
