This 1971 Plymouth ’Cuda coupe was refurbished and is powered by a rebuilt, overbored V-code 440ci V8 with triple two-barrel carburetors. Finished in Curious Yellow with a black roof and billboard stripes, the car is also equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission, 15″ Rallye wheels, a Custom Autosound stereo, a TTi dual exhaust system, rear window louvers, and dual fender tags, which note factory options including a rear wing, the Light Package, power-assisted front disc brakes, a Shaker hood secured by pins, dual side mirrors, front bucket seats upholstered in black, and Rallye instrumentation.
The replacement 440ci V8 was overhauled by Custom Automotive Specialties in 2006 with work including a .010″ overbore and replacing the pistons, valves, and rods in addition to installing a hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters. Built as a V-code car with triple two-barrel carburetors, the car was equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor during the 2010s and has since been returned to its “6-Barrel” setup. Previously installed Trick Flow aluminum cylinder heads and an Edelbrock intake manifold have since been replaced, with “906” heads and a cast-iron manifold, respectively. The alternator has also been rebuilt.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission with an SMR 2800-rpm-stall torque converter. A TTi dual exhaust system with 2.5″ mandrel-bent tubing and Dynomax mufflers has been added.
The car left the factory finished in Curious Yellow (GY3) with a black vinyl roof, black billboard stripes, a Shaker hood secured by pins, dual side mirrors, and a rear wing. The car has been repainted, and the black vinyl roof was replaced in 2011. Additional features include quad headlights and rear window louvers.
The 15″ Rallye wheels were mounted with 215/70 front and 235/70 rear Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires, and a spare is located in the trunk. Power-assisted brakes were optioned from the factory, and work in 2008 included machining the front rotors and replacing the rear drums.
The front bucket seats have been reupholstered in black and are complemented by a matching dashboard, rear bench, and door panels. ’Cuda-branded floor mats line the footwells, and additional amenities include a woodgrain center console, a cabin heater, and a Custom Autosound stereo. The headliner was replaced during a refurbishment.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Rallye instrumentation including a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, alternator charge, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 97k miles.
