This Buick GSX is one of approximately 400 Stage 1 performance package models produced for the 1970 model year. It was restored between 2002 and 2008. That work included stripping and refinishing the body and chassis, repairing and replacing sheet metal, reupholstering the interior, and overhauling the brakes, suspension, and steering. The High Performance 455ci V8 was also rebuilt, as were the three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic automatic transmission and limited-slip rear end. The car is finished in Apollo White over black vinyl upholstery and equipped with front and rear spoilers, a hood-mounted tachometer, power steering, power front disc brakes, chrome 15″ wheels, power windows, a Sonomatic AM radio, and a rear speaker. The car received the Concours/Restored Gold award at the 2021 Buick GS Nationals and it is now offered with a 69-page hardcover refurbishment and history book, a reproduction window sticker, a partial build sheet, the aforementioned award, manufacturer’s literature, GSX Historic Society documents, service manuals, spare parts, and a clean title.

The Stage 1 455ci V8 had a more aggressive camshaft and higher compression than the standard engine and was rated at 360 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil change was performed in preparation for sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic automatic transmission and a limited-slip rear differential with 3.42 gears. The transmission weeps fluid at the selector shaft seal.

A 69-page hardcover book details the 2002-2008 build as well as preparation for the 2021 Buick GS Nationals judging. A partial build sheet, manufacturer’s literature, a car cover, GSX Historic Society documents, a GSX-branded flag and wall clock, service manuals, and spare parts are also included in the sale.

Introduced to the Buick Gran Sport lineup in mid-1970, the GSX model featured a front spoiler, a rear wing, full-length side stripes, and a hood with a tachometer, dual air intakes, and wide black stripes. This example was disassembled and underwent sheet metal work prior to being repainted in the factory Apollo White. Additional details include a split front grille, quad headlights, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers and trim.

Chrome 15″ five-spoke wheels wear Buick center caps and are mounted with reproduction G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT white-letter tires. The car is equipped with the Rallye Ride Control suspension that includes a rear stabilizer bar, a rear lower control-arm assembly, and firmer shocks and springs. The car features power-assisted steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted vented front discs and finned rear drums. The brake fluid was changed in preparation for sale.

The cabin was reupholstered in the factory black vinyl and features textured seat inserts, woodgrain trim, and GSX interior badges. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, a Sonomatic AM radio, a rear speaker, Buick-branded rubber floormats, and lap seatbelts. The air conditioning system was serviced and recharged with R12 refrigerant in September 2024.

The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by a Rallye clock and a combination gauge monitoring fuel level, oil pressure, and engine temperature.

The speedometer assembly was replaced during the restoration and the five-digit odometer shows 106 miles, TMU.
