This 1968 Mercury Cougar is one of 394 examples produced with the GT-E option package for a single model year, and is the sole XR-7 version optioned from the factory with its particular combination of a 428ci Cobra Jet V8, a four-speed manual transmission, and a 3.90:1 Traction-Lok differential according to the Mercury Cougar Registry.

The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 features a four-barrel carburetor topped with an air cleaner housing that mates to the scoop opening when the hood is closed.

Factory output was rated at 340 horsepower.

A Scott Fuller reproduction exhaust system was fitted, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed Toploader manual transmission and a 3.90:1 Traction-Lok differential.

The car is finished in Augusta Green Metallic with silver lower panels and features tinted glass, hide-away headlights, a power-retractable radio antenna, 7.0 Litre GT-E badges, and a functional fiberglass hood scoop. A Park Motor Mart, Inc. decal is affixed to the trunk lid.

Body repairs were performed on the right front fender and rear quarter panel.

Chrome styled steel wheels wear beauty rings, center caps with stylized 7L marks, and F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas bias-ply tires.

As a GT-E model, the car was delivered from the factory with power-assisted steering and front disc brakes as well as the Super Competition handling package.

The cabin features low-backed front bucket and rear bench seats trimmed in Saddle leather along with a matching headliner and black carpets.

Amenities include a center console with an inoperable clock, a Philco AM radio, map lights, and rubber floor mats with Cougar logos.
