Power is provided by a replacement 1,914cc Scat DP flat-four with forged connecting rods, a GMB camshaft, big-valve cylinder heads, and a Flame Thrower ignition mated to a Rancho Performance four-speed manual transaxle.
The vehicle was placed on a rotisserie and the driver-side rocker panel, middle section and lower-outer skin of the cargo floor, four outriggers, and jack pockets were replaced prior to receiving a repaint in the factory Sealing Wax Red and Beige Gray, after which a clearcoat was applied.
Refurbishment work included installing Wolfsburg West front and rear bumpers, deluxe bumper trim and hardware, fluted German-style headlamps, turn signals, windshield wiper arms, aftermarket safari windshields with polished trim, an antenna, weatherstripping, and window seals.
Additional work consisted of installing beltline trim, a chrome engine lid keyhole, rear bumper splash guard inserts and hardware, and a wiring harness and bulbs.
A Grumpy’s replacement sunroof kit with a fabric soft top, rollers, crossbars, and stainless-steel hardware was installed.
Body-color 15×5.5″ steel wheels wear polished caps and are mounted with 165/80 Coker Classic whitewall tires.
The braking system features front discs along with replacement bearings, hardware, hoses, a master cylinder and reservoir, custom lines, backing plates, drums, shoes, and a reconditioned emergency brake cable.
The suspension system was serviced with tie-rod ends, center drag links, shocks, and hardware, while additional refurbishment work consisted of refurbishing the front beam center pivot and reconditioning the ZF steering box
The interior has been reupholstered in gray and features replacement door and side panels along with rubber and Coco floor mats throughout.
Refurbishment work included fabricating custom seat frames as well as installing mounting hardware and decorative plates, a replacement rear seat grab bar, seven gray-finished seat belts, brake and clutch pedal pads, a Retrosound stereo feeding four aftermarket speakers, front door felt inserts, a headliner, an ivory turn signal knob, a machined stitched front seating pedestal wrap, chrome sliding window and pop-out latches, door hinges and seat frame hardware, cargo door check straps, and heater cables.
The seating arrangement accommodates up to seven passengers and includes a three-across rear bench, a tandem middle-row bench, and front buckets.
A spare tire, an aftermarket speaker, and jail bars are fitted in the cargo area.
A replacement two-spoke steering wheel with a Wolfsburg-crest horn button frames a newer 80-mph VDO speedometer with a five-digit odometer that shows 47k miles.
