This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split-window coupe was delivered new to Tom’s Chevrolet of Wheaton, Maryland, in December 1962. Refurbishment work between 2011 and 2018 included repainting the body in Riverside Red, re-trimming the interior, overhauling the chassis, and rebuilding the 327ci L75 V8, four-speed manual transmission, and 4.11:1 Positraction differential. The car has since received NCRS Chapter, Regional, and National Top Flight awards, an NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence award, a Bloomington Gold certification, and a Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) Concours Gold Certificate and Triple Diamond Certification.
The 327ci L75 V8 was equipped from the factory with a Carter AFB carburetor and a high-lift camshaft for a factory rating of 300 horsepower. The engine was bored .030″ over and rebuilt in 2014, and the carburetor, alternator, distributor, and water pump were overhauled as well. The spark plugs were replaced in preparation for the sale.
The engine stamping includes sequence 105593, which corresponds with the last six digits of the vehicle’s serial number. The RD suffix indicates a 300-horsepower, 327ci V8 for use with a manual transmission.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed Borg-Warner manual transmission and an optional Positraction differential.
The fiberglass body left the factory in Riverside Red (923A), and it was stripped and repainted in 2014. Features include the 1963-unique split rear window and faux hood grilles as well as flip-up headlamps, fender vents, quad tail lamps, chrome bumperettes, and dual exhaust tips that exit through the rear valance.
Silver-finished 15” steel wheels feature three-eared knock-off spinner-style hubcaps and are mounted with reproduction 6.70-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion tires. The C2 was the first Corvette to offer fully independent suspension, with upper and lower control arms at the front and a three-link setup with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
The cabin features low-back bucket seats reupholstered in red vinyl as well as color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Amenities include a heater, an AM radio, an analog clock, and lap belts.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,300-5,500 rpm red zone as well as gauges for amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level.
The five-digit odometer shows 300 miles, which represents the distance driven since the instrument cluster was overhauled in 2015. Total mileage is unknown.
