This 1968 Mercury Cougar XR-7 was subsequently refurbished. Work included repainting the exterior in red, fitting black vinyl-trimmed seats sourced from a Mustang, rebuilding the fuel system and suspension, and replacing the windshield and weather seals. Power comes from a replacement 302ci V8 which is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and the car is equipped with a GT-E-style hood scoop, vacuum-operated headlight covers, a split “electric shaver” grille, LED taillights, polished 17″ American Racing wheels, front disc brakes, a replacement headliner and carpets, and a center console.

The replacement 302ci V8 was installed and is equipped with a chrome thermostat housing, air cleaner, and valve covers. The motor was removed as part of refurbishment in order to replace left hand shock tower. The motor mounts were replaced along with the PCV valve, radiator hose, oil cap, valve and cover gaskets. The fuel system was rebuilt using a reproduction tank as well as a replacement fuel sending unit, low fuel sensor, gaskets, and hardware.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed C4 automatic transmission that was rebuilt.

The Deluxe Marti report shows a build date of July 26, 1968, along with factory colors, equipment, production statistics, and initial delivery to O’Connor Lincoln Mercury.

Factory-finished in Lime Frost, the car was refinished in red as part of the refurbishment, at which time the front bumper was re-chromed and the windshield, rear quarter window trim, and weather seals were replaced. A GT-E-style hood scoop is fitted along with vacuum-operated headlight covers, a split “electric shaver” grille, LED taillights, and polished dual exhaust outlets.

Polished 17″ American Racing Torq Thrust wheels are wrapped in 215/55 front and 245/50 rear Sumitomo tires. Stopping is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. Power steering is fitted, and the suspension have been rebuilt with replacement upper and lower control arms, sway-bar end links, spring perches, shocks, and tie rods.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl upholstery and have been sourced from a 1966 Mustang. Woodgrain trim accents the dash, and a replacement headliner and carpets were fitted as part of the refurbishment. The factory seats are included in the sale.

An aftermarket Cougar-branded steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges.

The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles, true mileage is unknown.
