This 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe received three Builder’s Choice awards from Goodguys Nationals following its refurbishment and modification by Dream Cars in 2010. The car rides on an Art Morrison chassis with adjustable coilovers and a four-link rear setup, and staggered-diameter Schott wheels are mounted over two-piece rotors and Wilwood calipers. The car is powered by a 502ci V8 topped with an eight-stack throttle body and EFI system, and it is linked with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a 9″ rear end. Body modifications and repairs were performed before it was refinished in black, and the cabin is outfitted with red leather upholstery, a Kenwood stereo, air conditioning, and AutoMeter instrumentation.
The 502ci V8 was built by Dream Cars, and is topped with a Hogan intake manifold fitted with a Jim Inglese eight-stack throttle body setup with Holley Terminator X electronic fuel injection. Additional Holley components include a distributor and intake air temperature sensor. The engine bay has been shaved, tucked, and refinished to match the Chevrolet-branded valve covers, and the hood opens on fabricated hinges. An aluminum radiator and dual electric fans provide cooling.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, a carbon-fiber driveshaft, and a 9″ rear axle with 3.70:1 gearing. The custom tubular headers feed a Jet-Hot-coated exhaust system with an H-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers that terminates through cutouts in the rear bumper.
Rust repairs were performed, body panels were replaced, the drip rails were shaved, the fuel filler was relocated to behind the left taillight, the badges were removed, custom driving lights were fitted, and the body was refinished in black during the refurbishment. The chrome trim was re-plated and flush-fit bumpers were installed.
The car rides on an Art Morrison chassis with tubular front control arms, a four-link rear setup, and adjustable coilovers at all four corners. A power rack-and-pinion steering system with an aluminum fluid reservoir is installed.
Schott 18″ front and 20″ rear wheels are mounted with tires that have had the sidewall text shaved. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs featuring a Wilwood master cylinder, red-finished calipers, and multi-piece slotted and drilled rotors at all four corners.
The cabin was refurbished during the build, and red leather covers the front bucket seats, rear bench, center console, and steering wheel. A Kenwood digital head unit is installed in the center console along with controls for the air conditioning system and power windows. A Hurst shifter and billet door handles are installed, and the trunk was refinished to match the cabin upholstery.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits on a tilting column with billet indicator and adjustment levers. AutoMeter Pro-Comp instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, 10k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary readouts.
The digital odometer shows 1,100 miles, total mileage is unknown.
